Food Thoughts

I've been thinking a lot lately about food & the way we all eat and what we put in our bodies. I'm not really the calorie counter type...I like to guesstimate how much I've eaten during the day, but I just can't stay focused enough to actually count them. I know I'm eating around 1600 a day right now though...sometimes 1200--more or less.

But, lately, whenever I'm about to eat ANYTHING, I find myself going through my head figuring out if I can even allow myself that. I don't want to live my life like this--if I'm hungry, I want to be able to eat without realizing, "Oops!! Can't do it...ate too much today." It's quite the struggle.

I've been doing the thing where I only eat when I'm hungry...and when I say hungry, I mean I wait until my stomach starts calling out for food. I know that doesn't sound healthy, but I'm starting to discover what is actual hunger versus cravings or such.

Do ya'll have any tricks to determine if you're actually hungry or not??

I'm starting to realize how hard it is distinguishing those hunger levels...but I think so far I'm doing an okay job. I mean, I'm losing the weight, so I must be doing something right. Who knows. Haha

Well, I'm going to take a nap before my group project meeting. I had my eyebrows done today for the first time since November, so I'm all red and need the time to calm down the puffiness.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the week!!

xoxo

I try to ask myself am I really hungry--like am I feeling it in my gut? Or am I "mouth" hungry and just wanting the taste and sensation of eating. I agree, it is a difficult process. For me, slowing down and thinking at all before I eat is progress, though! LOL

I look forward to following your blog. If you get a chance, here's mine:

Sometimes when you feel hungry, you're really just thirsty. I chug a huge glass of water - 20 ounces or more - wait 15 minutes, then determine how to go from there depending on how I feel

My nutritional therapist gave me a sheet to stick to my fridge, it's a list of about 20 emotions (happy, sad, nervous, etc). Before I went into the fridge, I had to stop and determine why I was there - like if my belly wasn't hungry, then why was I there? I find that a nice warm cup of lemon water also soothes cravings.

Kelly is so right! They say that, 50% of the time when you feel hungry you're actually thirsty.

I've found that if I drink a huge glass of ice water, wait a little while, and reassess, it helps. Hope you find what works for you!
